AutoGate Lift Gate Installation
A self-storage facility in Greencastle needed a new vertical lift gate at its main entry. SMS delivered the operator and panel on our own trailer, set everything with our own equipment, and handled the install from unloading to battery backup.
The Project
Why a vertical lift gate
A vertical lift gate raises straight up instead of sliding or swinging, so it doesn't need side clearance, a long rail run, or room to swing into the drive. It's a strong fit for storage entries with tight lanes. The operator does the lifting from a single cabinet on the pad, which also keeps the service point in one place.
The customer poured a new concrete pad for the operator. SMS brought the gate package and equipment to the site and handled the installation.
How the install went
01Unload with our own equipment
The operator, gate panel and a compact track loader came in on one trailer. The crew released the load, drove the loader off with a spotter, and used it to rig and lift each piece so nobody had to hand-carry heavy components.
02Move the panel and operator to the lane
The panel and operator were carried low and slow to the entry, with the crew guiding each load into place.
03Set the operator on the pad
The loader set the operator onto the new concrete pad, and the crew lined it up with the gate opening before releasing the load.
04Drill and anchor
With the position confirmed, the crew drilled the pad and anchored the operator base so it stays put through years of daily cycles.
05Mount and align the panel
The 20-foot panel was brought in to the operator, fastened, and checked for alignment along its full length so it lifts square.
06Battery backup and close-up
Backup batteries went into the operator cabinet so the gate keeps running during a power loss. The cabinet was closed up, and the manual and spare hardware were left on site for the facility.
