If the latch won’t line up or the tenant can’t get a lock through the hasp, that unit isn’t secure and can’t be rented. These are usually quick fixes once someone looks at the whole door.
Likely causes
What usually causes it.
- Bent or broken hasp or latch. Impact from carts, vehicles, or prying bends the hardware out of line.
- Door sitting low or high. Worn springs or stretched curtains change where the door stops, so the latch and keeper no longer meet.
- Damaged bottom bar or curtain. A bent bottom rail throws off alignment.
- Loose or missing fasteners. Hardware works loose over time with daily use.
